Keynote Sessions

7th Annual BSAS Statewide Virtual Substance Use Prevention Virtual Conference. Plenary Session.

Dr. Hintz served as one of four presenters, each of whom advocated for societal change. The keynote presentations explore how racist policies contribute to inequitable health outcomes, examine our collective role in perpetuating these inequities, and identify potential solutions. In true “Psych Geek” fashion, Dr. Hintz incorporated a Wakandan proverb into her discussion of racial equity and inclusion.

Interviews

As black people, we have a legacy of exhaustion. Rest, taking a break, is a key to connecting to the wisdom of our ancestors in creating a new world. But, then, rest may be connected to a negative “You’re lazy, you do nothing” stereotype.

How to fight against those negative stereotypes, cycle of racial stress and microaggression? How to take care of ourselves and recover when our old wounds get open again. How to find rest and process the trauma?

Don’t be Trash with Dr. Vanessa Hintz

The Just a Thought podcast is dedicated to Black researchers so that they have the space and freedom to showcase their work, how it impacts the community as a whole, and so we can learn a little something in the process. Research, like almost everything else in our daily lives, has the added pressures of systemic oppression bearing down on us. The goal of the podcast is to remove some of those obstacles by putting efforts that enhance the Black community at the forefront, and ensure that our great minds don’t go unnoticed, or unheard.
